uAvionix AV-20-S Approved as Clock Replacement

Device Also Adds An Extensive Suite Of In-Flight Information

uAvionix tells us that their AV-20-S multi-function display has been approved by the FAA as a clock replacement for Part 23, Class I and II Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) aircraft as outlined in Advisory Circular (AC) 20-94A and meeting the requirements of 14 CFR 91.205(d)(6). The AV-20-S Non-Required Safety Enhancing Equipment (NORSEE) certification has been updated to reflect the approval. In addition to a clock replacement, the uAvionix AV-20-S adds a suite of in-flight information to nearly any panel. NASA, Boeing Test Crew Return and Recovery Procedures

Boeing’s Starliner Is Designed To Land On Land

Landing and recovery teams from Boeing and NASA recently completed a crew landing dress rehearsal at the U.S. Army’s White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico, in preparation for missions returning with astronauts from the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program. When astronauts land after their journey to the space station on Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner spacecraft, recovery teams must be able to remove the crew from the capsule quickly. In the unlikely event of a medical emergency, Boeing and NASA also partner with local trauma teams who are trained to provide the highest level of coordinated, specialized care.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be holding a public board meeting March 23, 2021, 9:30 a.m. (EST), to consider a draft report on recommendations for the implementation of stricter regulatory requirements for some types of revenue passenger-carrying general aviation operations. The NTSB has a long history of concerns about the safety of various revenue passenger-carrying operations, including sightseeing flights conducted in hot air balloons, helicopters, and other aircraft and parachute jump flights. These operations are not subject to the same maintenance, airworthiness, and operational requirements as other commercial flight operations.

He Felt A Large Shock To The Airplane, Which Began Shaking, Buffeting Violently And Loudly

On January 19, 2021, about 1055 eastern standard time, an American AA-5, N5880L, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Leesburg, Virginia. The flight instructor and student pilot were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The flight instructor stated that while flying direct to Leesburg Executive Airport (JYO), Leesburg, Virginia, in smooth air in a slight descent at 1,500 to 1,700 ft mean sea level while below the yellow arc indicated airspeed, he felt a large shock to the airplane, which began shaking, buffeting violently and loudly.

AD: Airbus SAS Airplanes

AD 2021-03-05 Requires Inspections Of The Left- And Right-Hand Rudder Side Shells For Defects

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Airbus SAS Model A318, A319, A320, and A321 series airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that following accomplishment of tap tests on certain modified rudders, disbonding of the rudder was found close to the lightning protection plate. This AD requires inspections of the left- and right-hand rudder side shells for defects, and applicable corrective actions, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD becomes effective February 22, 2021.
