Vermont CAP Wing Offers 2020 Cadet Glider Orientation Flights

Cadets Received A Hands-On Lesson

The Vermont Wing of the CAP took advantage of the good flying weather in central Vermont recently, launching several Cadets on their first glider orientation flights. Every CAP cadet under age 18 is eligible for five flights in a powered aircraft (usually one of the Wing’s Cessna 172s or 182), five flights in a glider aircraft, and an unlimited number of backseat flights when conditions allow. Orientation flights are always free to cadets.

Despite the inability to hold annual in-person meetings during AirVenture this year, the EAA Aeromedical and Legal Advisory Councils met virtually to catch up and discuss policy issues facing EAA members. The Aeromedical Advisory Council welcomed a new member, Rolando "Roy" Diaz, Jr, M.D., of Odessa, Texas. While Taxiing, The Left Wing Of The 172s Contacted The Right Wing And Engine Of The BN-2A-27

On July 13, 2020, about 1146 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 172S, N5280D, and a Britten Norman BN-2A-27, N200MU, were substantially damaged when they were involved in an accident at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The pilot of the 172S and the pilot of the BN-2A-27 were not injured. The 172S was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight and the BN-2A-27 was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 135 air taxi flight.

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all DG Flugzeugbau GmbH Models DG-500 Elan Orion, DG-500 Elan Trainer, DG-500/20 Elan, DG-500/22 Elan, DG500M, and DG-500MB gliders and certain Models DG-1000S and DG-1000T gliders. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product.
