Airborne 01.14.15: Spartan 'Electriflies', CAF's B29 Ground School, Bristell TDO

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has signed a Training Program Development and Deposit Agreement with Aero Electric Aircraft Corp., referred to as AEAC. Spartan is reserving the first 20 “Sun Flyer” delivery positions and is to help develop a complete training system for the “Sun Flyer” solar-electric training aircraft being developed by AEAC. Here is an opportunity to receive ground training on one of World War II’s greatest airplanes, the B-29 Super Fortress. Aircraft First Flew About A Month Later On February 25

Fifty years ago Monday, Douglas Aircraft rolled out its first DC-9 in Long Beach, California. The short-to-medium range airliner was powered by two aft-mounted Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines. It was the beginning of a very successful partnership between Pratt & Whitney and Douglas (later McDonnell-Douglas and eventually Boeing following a series of mergers). Huntsville International Airport Reopens East Runway

Now Meets Requirements For 747-8 Freighters After Nine-Month Improvement Project

After a nine-month, $16.579 million improvement project, Huntsville International Airport (KHSV) has reopened its east runway along with adjacent taxiways.  The project was done in order to meet the requirements set for Panalpina’s 747-8 freighters, which are classified as a Group VI aircraft.  This project was made possible when the FAA awarded $15,750,741 in discretionary funds to KHSV for improvements to its east runway in September 2013. This is the largest grant KHSV has ever received.
