The Romanian low-cost airline Blue Air said in a statement Thursday that it has cancelled orders for five Boeing 737 aircraft it had ordered in 2008. The carrier's parent company Romstrade cited financial difficulties as the reason for scrapping plans to acquire the new aircraft.

2012 saw a slight increase in both baggage fees and reservation change and cancellation fees among the nation’s top 10 major airlines studied recently by a business travel organization. Topping the list once again was Delta Airlines which, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, in the 3rd quarter of 2012 alone had collected over $1.2 million in fees. In 2011 the airline collected nearly $1.7 million in total fees. United Airlines was ranked number two with a little over $1 million in total fees.

Cessna Says Performance Tops Initial Projections

The FAA has granted Type Certification to Cessna for its Grand Caravan EX, which the company says has bested initial performance targets. Powered by the new Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140 engine, Cessna says the Grand Caravan EX has shown a 38 percent improvement in the rate of climb of the Grand Caravan, a figure which exceeds the original 20 percent improvement projection.

New Orleans' Lakefront Airport Announces Super Bowl Plans

Aircraft Reservations Required February 1-4

New Orleans Lakefront Airport (KNEW) is requiring reservations from aircraft operators for airport use February 1- 4, 2013 for the Super Bowl XLVII event on Feb. 3, according to a release from the FAA Safety Team. A heavy volume of air traffic is expected during this time so a parking reservation system has been established to insure that ramp space will be available for arriving aircraft.

Horizon Air and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced Wednesday that the carrier's 610 pilots ratified an agreement to extend the current contract for three years, creating a new six-year pact. Among pilots who voted, 77 percent approved ratification.
