The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimated
that the Icelandic volcano crisis cost airlines more than $1.7
billion in lost revenue through Tuesday-six days after the initial
eruption. For a three-day period (17-19 April), when disruptions
were greatest, lost revenues reached $400 million per day.
A T-1A aircraft with the modification to support CSO training,
had its first flight Wednesday, according to a Camber Corporation
news release. The aircraft took off at 1116 EDT from Dayton
International Airport and flew for 1 hour and 55 minutes.

ARINC To Start Upgrades Under Air Force Block 45 Program
As the Air Force gets ready to evaluate bids for a tanker to
replace the KC-135, the existing aircraft are still flying daily,
and need to be kept as up-to-date as possible. ARINC Engineering
Services, LLC has contracted with Rockwell Collins to perform the
initial avionics upgrade on the U.S. Air Force's tanker fleet.
Early this week, Embraer performed the first metal cut for the
Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 programs. This manufactured part belongs

Navy Tests "Green Hornet" On Half-And-Half Camelina And
Standard Jet Fuels
The Navy celebrated Earth Day April 22 by showcasing a flight
test of the "Green Hornet," an F/A-18 Super Hornet multirole
fighter jet powered by a biofuel blend. The test, conducted at
Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD, drew hundreds of onlookers,
including Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus.
Airlines Had Requested Relief At Congested New York Region

The U.S. DOT today denied the requests of five airlines for a
temporary exemption from the new rule limiting tarmac delays. As a
result, all U.S. carrier flights covered by the rule will be
subject to its terms effective April 29.

(SAIB) released by the FAA this week focuses on potential
problems when an incorrect oil filter is installed on Superior Air
Parts, Inc. (SAP) oil filter adapter, part number (P/N) SL2157,
which can be installed on certain Lycoming Engines reciprocating
engines.
US Airways Issues Statement Regarding Merger Discussions
After flirting with United Airlines in merger discussions, in
what some analysts saw as a way for UAL to re-open talks with
Continental Airlines, US Airways Group said Thursday that it
has discontinued recent talks with UAL Corporation regarding a
potential merger between the two companies.
"I am the first one to say that this industry does not
want or need bailouts. But this crisis is not the result of running
our business badly."
