A US Army CH-47 helicopter went down in Deh Chopan
district of southeastern Zabul province Saturday. While the area
has seen a lot of action, US and Afghan government spokesmen
indicated that the crash was not related to enemy action.
As one "Dragon Lady" came bearing down upon the Gulf Coast,
another was flying overhead on a surveillance and recon mission
unlike any ever undertaken before.
Since 1984, the C-130 Hercules has been a familiar sight over
the southern shores of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Flown by the
204th Airlift Squadron, part of the 154th Wing of Hawaii's Air
National Guard, the planes have brought supplies to typhoon and
volcano victims. The planes have also helped train crews for
military airlift operations throughout the world.
