A UAV reportedly went down Saturday in North Waziristan near the Afghan border, according to U.S. military officials. The unmanned reconnaissance aircraft went down about 20 miles east of Miranshah, a town that is the frequent target of UAV attacks against Taliban and Al-Qaeda targets.

Lockheed Martin Expands Florida Facility For F-35 Component Manufacturing

Additional Jobs Expected For Canopy Production

Lockheed Martin's operation in Pinellas Park, FL, officially opened a new 57,000 square foot manufacturing facility today to produce aircraft canopy components for the F-35 Lighting II fighter. The new facility is an annex to Lockheed Martin's existing 197,000 square foot building that has been producing structural components for more than 10 different types of aircraft since 1997.

Amount Projected To Fly 2,443 F-35 Fighters For 50 Years

Operation of a fleet of 2,443 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters will cost the U.S. taxpayers nearly a trillion dollars over 50 years, according to Lt. Gen. Terry Robling, deputy commandant of the Marine Corps for aviation. The Pentagon is reportedly looking into ways to drive those costs down.
