Air Force Implements Civilian Hiring Freeze

Action Taken As Budget Cuts Due To Sequestration Loom

Air Force senior leaders directed a force-wide hiring freeze among other workforce actions in a memorandum sent to senior commanders January 16. The actions are part of the Air Force's efforts to pursue reversible or recoverable steps to avoid impacts to core readiness caused by the looming possibility of sequestration and budgetary shortfalls.

HSC-23 Brings Search And Rescue Capability To USS Peleliu

Two Of The Squadron's 12 MH-60S Nighthawk Helicopters Deployed With The Ship

Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23, from Naval Air Station North Island, embarked aboard amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) as a search and rescue (SAR) detachment in February 2012 and is currently deployed with the ship. The detachment provides day and night helicopter amphibious search and rescue support to the ship and embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit's Aviation Combat Element.

AirTanker Conducts First Passenger Flight

Received Relevant Regulatory Approval January 5th

UK-based AirTanker took its first Ministry of Defence passengers to Cyprus since gaining the relevant approvals to become an airline on January 5th. As part of its set-up to provide operational capability to the MOD, AirTanker will operate at least one of its 14 specially converted A330 aircraft, named Voyager by the RAF, on the civilian register.
