No Night IFR Approaches Allowed At Gillespie County

The FAA has banned night IFR approaches to Gillespie County
Airport in Fredericksburg, Texas following protracted negotiations
over trees at Lady Byrd Johnson Golf Course, which is adjacent to
the airport. The FAA says the ban is "temporary, but
indefinite."
The Department of Energy is partially funding a project that
will allow an Iowa company to start producing jet fuel from poultry
fat. Elevance Renewable Sciences plans build a $15 million
addition to its existing biodiesel plant in Newton, Iowa, that will
use it along with other feedstocks to produce biofuels.
A little less than two years ago, the FAA announced that it
would be replacing all paper airman certificates with plastic
certificate that will be much more difficult to counterfeit. The
deadline for replacing that certificate is approaching fast.
