The hard-working and long-suffering gnomes that publish ANN will
finally get to take a short holiday break this week [we gnomes
thank you --ed]. ANN's normal DAILY news will be presented through
December 24th, and will then be on a brief Holiday
schedule, December 25th and 26th.
It's tough being caught between a rock and hard place -- but a
rock and a helicopter? A diver whose tender boat lost power south
of New Zealand's Island Bay Thursday decided that, given the choice
between finding refuge from the sea on a large rock or being lifted
to safety by a helicopter -- he'd take the rock.
"I was quite amazed that he refused to be rescued. I
have been working on the helicopter for nearly 15 years and
although I have seen people reluctant to be rescued, I have never
met anyone who flatly refused."

Greenberg, after a diver stranded on a rock off the coast of
Wellington refused to be taken aboard a rescue helicopter due to
the man's fear of heights. The man was later rescued -- by a
boat.
