Flight schools as well as colleges that offer aviation programs are beefing up their courses in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations in anticipation of drones being allowed to fly in the National Air Space by 2015. That date has been set as the likely timeframe for the FAA's release of its policy on commercial UAV use.
SAR Team Recalled Because Of Unsafe Conditions At Accident Site
Officials with the U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP) and Antarctica New Zealand have jointly decided to recall search-and-rescue teams from the site of an Antarctic aircraft crash after examination of the plane indicated that it would be unsafe at this point to further disturb the wreckage that is largely embedded in snow and ice on a steep mountain slope.
Agrees With HAI, AAMS Position That Exemption Remains Valid
The FAA has granted an extension of an exemption to the FARs that will allow properly trained pilots employed by HAI and Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) member operators to remove and reinstall Liquid Oxygen System (LOX) containers in their aircraft. The two associations had petitioned the FAA for the extension in November.
