Five Fatally Injured, NTSB Indicates PIREPS For Icing, Aircraft Appeared To Break Up In Flight
The pilot of a Socata TMB 700 which went down on an interstate highway December 20, 2011, did not obtain a Direct User Access Terminal System (DUATS) weather briefing, according to a factual report issued by the NTSB. The pilot reported encountering icing shortly after takeoff from Tetrboro (KTEB). All five people on board the aircraft were fatally injured in the accident.
Company That Owned The Airplane Said Accident 'Not Survivable'
The wreckage of a Twin Otter aircraft that was reported missing last week in Antarctica has been found in a remote and mountainous area of the continent. An initial assessment by Kenn Borek Air Ltd. of Calgary, Canada, the owner of the plane, deemed the crash “not survivable.” Weather had prevented search-and-rescue personnel from landing at the site.
