DOT Secretary LaHood Announces First Aviation Agreement Between
The Countries
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood announced Wednesday
that the United States and Zambia have signed an Open-Skies
aviation agreement, liberalizing U.S.-Zambia air services for the
carriers of both countries.
Flight Testing Proceeding With Deliveries To Begin Late In The
Year
The third Boeing 747-8 Freighter, RC 521, successfully completed
its first flight Wednesday. It is the final test airplane scheduled
to participate in the flight-test program for the 747-8
Freighter.
Concerns Raised the Feedstocks Will Compete With Land Used For
Farming Food
Airlines will likely fly using fuel made from plant sources
rather than petroleum-based jet fuel within the next 10 years. The
forecast was made during the World Biofuels Markets conference held
this week in Amsterdam.

The NTSB has determined that Northwest Airlines flight 188
overflew its destination airport of Minneapolis by more than 100
miles and failed to maintain radio communications because the
pilots became distracted by a conversation unrelated to the
operation of the aircraft.
Second Large Penalty Proposed In Six Days Against The
Airline
The FAA announced Thursday that it is proposing a $300,000 civil
penalty on American Airlines for a maintenance violation. It is the
second such civil penalty proposed in the past six days.
