All-717 Fleet To Be Basis For Low-Cost Carrier Serving Small,
Midsized Cities
The Boeing 717 will be the foundation for new European low-cost
airline, Volotea, with a long-term lease deal announced today
between The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) and the airline's management.
Volotea has taken delivery of its first 717-200 airplane from
Boeing Capital Corporation, the manufacturers' financing and
leasing arm. The operator plans to begin its new European
point-to-point service with an all-717 fleet in time for this
year's Easter travel season.
Announce Orders For The Powerplant Reaching 171 Units
Engine orders for A320neo family aircraft are being announced
this week at the Singapore Air Show. Two of the early announcements
came from Go Airlines and TransAsia Airways, both of which have
selected Pratt & Whitey PurePower PW1100G-JM engines.

Without Arbitration
The merger of Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways hit a bump
in what had been a pretty smooth road to finalization Tuesday, as
the members of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA)
Local 11, which represents mechanics working for Southwest
Airlines, rejected the seniority integration agreement proposed by
the airline as part of its merger with AirTran.
Investigation Is Underway, Airline Is Not Commenting
A Pinnacle Airlines flight operating under a codeshare with
Delta was cancelled Monday, and the reason may be that the sole
flight attendant on the airplane was intoxicated.
