The Japanese company Koito Industries admitted Monday that it
has falsified safety data on as many as 150,000 airliner seats used
by 32 different carriers. But the Japanese Transport Ministry says
there is no reason for the planes to be grounded.
Troubled Japanese Carrier Had Been Courted By Delta,
SkyTeam
Japan Air Line announced Monday will continue its partnership
with oneworld Alliance, following a long courtship of the troubled
Japanese airline by both American, which is a oneworld member, and
Delta, which is partnered with SkyTeam. JAL joined oneworld in
2007.
Hong Kong Airlines has selected Pratt & Whitney's PW4170
Advantage70 engine to power six new Airbus A330 aircraft. The
memorandum of understanding, valued at approximately $470 million
at list prices, includes two spare engines and a fleet management
program.
The DOT announced Tuesday that it has tentatively decided to
grant the waiver requested by Delta Air Lines and US Airways to
allow the carriers to proceed with their proposed slot swap
transaction at Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and New
York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
Third FAA Investigation Of The Airline In Two Years
The FAA has launched an investigation into possible violations
of safety directives by Southwest Airlines, the third time the
agency had looked into the carrier's safety practices in two
years.
