Nine Meetings Held Across Country; 143 Pilots Retired

The Allied Pilots Association (APA), collective bargaining agent
for the 12,000 pilots of American Airlines, tells ANN the union
conducted large-scale member meetings at nine locations nationwide
Friday, to send a signal to management at American Airlines. The
rallies come as both sides continue to squabble -- with little
actual progress -- in ongoing contract negotiations.
Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly says he's open to the idea of
merging with another airline, though he adds Southwest should make
out fine whether it chooses to remain independent or not.
Smoke In Cockpit, Shattered Windscreen Resulted In Emergency
Diversion
The National Transportation Safety Board says it will
investigate the January 30 incident, in which an American Airlines
B757-200 en route from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Philadelphia
diverted to West Palm Beach, FL and made an emergency landing after
the cockpit filled with smoke.
