The European Union parliament voted Wednesday to create a
standardized set of guidelines to create a "blacklist" of airlines
which fail to meet international standards. Airlines noted on the
list -- primarily flying from what the EU refers to as "third
countries" -- would be banned from flying anywhere within the
EU.
After enduring a harsh summer marked by a spate of fatal
aircraft accidents, the European Commission adopted Wednesday a
major proposal to extend the reach of the European Aviation Safety
Agency (EASA) to rulemaking, control of air operations in the
field, pilot licensing and qualification, and oversight of foreign
airlines operating within the European Union.
No Defects Noted On Plane That Skidded Off Wet Toronto
Runway
A preliminary investigation by the Canadian Transportation
Safety Board (TSB) has found no unusual issues with the Air France
aircraft that skidded off the runway at Toronto's Pearson
International Airport on August 2.
Passengers onboard an Omni Air charter flight from Las Vegas to
Honolulu last week were surprised to find an unexpected stowaway
wandering the cabin: a 10-inch long sugar glider, or Petaurus
breviceps -- a small member of the possum family.
