Airbus has selected 100 student teams from across five continents to go to the next round of the 2013 Fly Your Ideas challenge. Of these, 49 per cent are from the Asia Pacific region, 37 per cent from Europe, 8 per cent from the the Americas, 3 per cent from Africa and 3 per cent from Middle East.

Regional Carrier Will Acquire 53 Embraer E175 Jets
Republic Airways Holdings said Wednesday it has reached an agreement with American Airlines to operate 53 Embraer E175 aircraft under the American Eagle brand. The Capacity Purchase Agreement (CPA) will be operated by the Company’s Republic Airlines subsidiary, with service expected to start in June of 2013. The CPA is subject to approval by the Bankruptcy Court in the American Airlines bankruptcy proceedings.
Southwest Airlines fourth quarter and full year 2012 results showed a 40th consecutive year of profitability for the airline. Fourth quarter 2012 net income was $78 million, or $.11 per diluted share, which included $13 million (net) of favorable special items.
