Airborne 12.13.17: Flight Design Update, Bell 525, Space Policy Directive

Flight Design may be under new ownership, but it plans to continue to be a leader in the design and manufacturing of light aircraft. Flight Design was acquired by LIFTAir of Eisenach, Germany last July and has been rebranded as Flight Design General Aviation GmbH. As a part of the acquisition, LIFTAir now owns the Flight Design EASA Design Organization, the Flight Design aircraft production facility in Kherson Ukraine and the design rights for all products produced by the company. The FAA has posted a Notice of Proposed Special Conditions for the Bell 525 Relentless helicopter in the Federal Register. Clarifies Airport Sponsor Responsibilities And What Communities Can Do

The FAA has issued guidance for pilots, FBOs, and airport sponsors in an online document titled “Q&As – FBO Industry Consolidation and Pricing Practices”. The document lays out a series of questions and answers addressing how federally funded airports should facilitate competition and transparency, as well as promote reasonable access and pricing. As a condition of receiving federal funding for development projects, airports must agree to protect public access to the airport by ensuring each FBO’s prices and fees are reasonable and not unjustly discriminatory.

The first successful ADS-B In jetliner flight demonstration has been conducted in China. ACSS, an L3 and Thales Company, said the demonstrations were performed on three A321 aircraft on approach to Shanghai’s Hongqiao International Airport and were conducted in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC); Juneyao Airlines, a Shanghai-based commercial and cargo carrier; and Airbus.

Nevada To Pursue New FAA Drone Program

Applies To Participate In UAS Integration Pilot Program

The State of Nevada has completed the first step for applying to participate in the FAA's Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Integration Pilot Program (IPP). By filing a notice of intent, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) will serve as Nevada’s lead applicant for the program, which was developed as an opportunity for state, local and tribal governments to partner with private sector entities, such as UAS operators or manufacturers, to prepare proposals for more advanced UAS operations, such as beyond visual line-of-sight or UAS operations over people. The competition to participate in the FAA program is fierce, with more than 200 notices of intent submitted and only five spots guaranteed.
