Apparent Accident Occurred On Maintenance Flight
Five military personnel were lost Tuesday when their CH-47
Chinook crashed in Iraq during what was described as a "routine
post-check maintenance flight."
The apparent accident occurred near the al-Taqaddum air base
outside Fallujah, 30 miles west of Baghdad, according to the US
There is no indication the twin-rotor helicopter was brought
down by enemy fire, though an investigation is underway.
A Chinook was shot down near the base in November 2003, killing
16 US troops.
