Nice Way to Close 2011 -- Bombardier Adds Five Challenger 850 Orders

Undisclosed Customer Buys Mach 0.80 BizJets

Bombardier Aerospace has announced that it closed the year with a firm order for five Challenger 850 jets from an undisclosed customer. The total value of the order is approximately $156 million US, based on the 2011 list price for typically equipped aircraft.

The Bombardier Challenger 850 is the largest super-mid size business aircraft currently offered by Bombardier Aerospace and is based on Bombardier's 50-seat CRJ200LR. The transcontinental bizjet is capable of accommodating 15-19 passengers.

Bombardier claims the 850 features the cabin volume of an ultra long-range jet with a range of up to 2,811 nautical miles. The Rockwell Coillins Pro Line 4 equipped aircaft boasts a six-screeen cockpit and is powered by General Electric CF34-3B1 turbofan engines. the 850 has a service ceailing of 41,000 feet, and a balance field length of 6305 feet. The Challenger 850 has a maximum takeoff weight of 53,000 pounds. The auxiliary fuel tanks can accommodate an additional 4,000 pounds (1,814 kg) of fuel for a maximum fuel weight of 18,274 pounds). The aircraft has a non-stop range of 2,811 nautical miles (5,206 km) with eight passengers and can fly non-stop New York-Dublin, London-Jeddah, Singapore-Shanghai and other key city pairs.

Bombardier revenues for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2011, were $17.9 billion.
