KSC Weathers Wilma

No Major Damage Reported

All is (relatively speaking) well at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, after Hurricane Wilma passed overhead Monday, according to NASA.

"We're in the Mary Poppins mode. We've getting hit pretty hard with sideways rain," KSC spokesman George Diller told Florida Today.

Two tornadoes were spotted near the facility as Wilma blew through with sustained winds of 76 mph. One of them touched down on North Merritt Island at around 1000. The second didn't touch down after it was spotted over the Haulover Canal an hour later.

Although the winds gusted to a maximum of 96 mph, damage was described as minimal. "We might have lost a couple of panels on the Vehicle Assembly Building, but overall, we don't see any obvious damage," Diller said. "It's turning out to be just about what we expected."
