F-15E Air Crew Ejects Safely During Training Mission In Southwest Asia

USAF Officials Say No Enemy Activity Was Involved In The Incident

The crew of an F-15E Strike Eagle on a training mission in an undisclosed location in southwest Asia was forced to eject from the airplane Thursday morning. Both crewmen are reported to be fine, but the airplane was lost.

Television station KTVB reports that the crew is attached to Mountain Home AFB's 366th Fighter Wing.

The Air Force Central Command said that the cause of the accident is still under investigation, but that it was not due to any hostile fire or insurgent activity. "We are extremely grateful that our Gunfighters are safe," said 366th Fighter Wing Vice Commander Col. Bruce Smith.

The unit lost one of its pilots in late March. F-15E pilot Captain Francis Imlay was fatally injured in a similar training incident. (F-15E file photo)
