A UK-based medevac company has announced a partnership with PAL-V for the use of their Liberty flying car. The Liberty combines aspects of an aircraft with the terrestrial mobility of a traditional automobile, providing the best of both capabilities with access to speedy, ubiquitous road infrastructure. The PAL-V will see use as a fast response vehicle, with paramedics and doctors able to arrive on scene faster and more efficiently to begin treatment sooner than any other method. The Association of Professional Warbird Operators (APWO) is a cooperative established to facilitate the development and sharing of best practices in Warbird operations—to include pilot and maintenance training, standardization, and safety protocols. On Saturday, 11 March 2023, a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule appositely dubbed Endeavour splashed down off Florida’s Gulf Coast, thereby delivering NASA astronauts Josh Cassada and Nicole Mann, Roscosmos cosmonaut Anna Kikina, and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Koichi Wakata safely home to Earth. In addition to bringing NASA’s SpaceX Crew-5 mission to a successful conclusion, the flight further demonstrated the viability of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon platform.

Texas Man Pleads Guilty to Falsifying B35 Maintenance Records

Faces 5-Years in Federal Prison and $250,000 Fine

Ronald P. Franklin, 52, of Pearland, Texas has pleaded guilty to insinuating false statements into the maintenance log of an aircraft that subsequently suffered an in-flight power-loss and subsequent accident. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) alleges that on or about 09 October 2020, after fraudulently representing himself as an Inspection Authorization (IA) holder, Franklin falsely claimed to have performed an annual inspection on the accident aircraft yet declared subject airplane airworthy.

Modern Aviation Expands Denver Footprint

New FBO Amenities Greener, Bigger than Ever

Modern Aviation held a grand opening for its upgraded and expanded FBO campus at Centennial Airport in Denver, Colorado. The freshly upgraded and expanded project includes the addition of two heated 28 ft-door hangars, a Class A FBO terminal and an expanded ramp. The work is the end result of almost $23 million, providing 7,000 square feet of terminal space, with 52,000 sq ft of hangar space. The interior offices now sport an additional 4,000 sq ft of office space, and operators outside can enjoy 150,000 sq ft of ramp to park on.

NTSB Prelim: Cessna P337H

Shortly After Takeoff, As He Retracted The Landing Gear, The Engines Lost Partial Power

On February 14, 2023, about 0838 Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, a Cessna P337H, a twinengine, centerline thrust airplane, N5KR sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident in Kona, Hawaii. The pilot and passengers were not injured. The airplane was operated by the pilot as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 135 sightseeing flight. Just prior to departure, the pilot completed the preflight and engine run-up with no anomalies noted. The airplane subsequently departed Runway 35 at the Kona International Airport (KOA), Kona.

Ground Controlled Approach A radar approach system operated from the ground by air traffic control personnel transmitting instructions to the pilot by radio. The approach may be conducted with surveillance radar (ASR) only or with both surveillance and precision approach radar (PAR). Usage of the term “GCA” by pilots is discouraged except when referring to a GCA facility. Pilots should specifically request a “PAR” approach when a precision radar approach is desired or request an “ASR” or “surveillance” approach when a nonprecision radar approach is desired.
