A Cessna 172 attempting a landing on Upper Red Lake broke through the ice, apparently taking the pilots by surprise on their intended ice fishing adventure. The crash landing happened around 0930, when the Grand Rapids aircraft touched down on the lake’s 1 to 2 inches of ice. That wasn’t enough to support it, unsurprisingly, though the pilot had assumed the landing zone could support the Skyhawk’s weight after a flyover. Perhaps it may have, had the aircraft come to a stop exactly where intended, but the lack of powdery snow reduced the amount of deceleration available. The National Business Aviation Association congratulated the next executive director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Florian Guillermet. "The decision by the EASA Management Board underscores the importance of Guillermet’s more than two decades of experience and strategic vision in the aviation industry," the NBAA's statement read. Ride-Alongs for State Politicians Held in Effort to Get State Approval for a Shiny New Aircraft

The Albuquerque Police Department is requesting a second helo for their fleet, building on their first acquisition in 2019. The delivery of a new production Airbus H125 in 2020 was the first the City had in more than 18 years, and now the Department says it needs a second. APD has gotten more than enough use out of its current aircraft, to the point when they need another to cover for downtime, maintenance, and simultaneous missions.

Sheltair to Add 40,000 Square Feet of Parking Space in 2.7 Acres of Hangars

The City of Kissimmee’s Economic Development Department has approved the construction of new hangars at Florida's Kissimmee Gateway Airport, choosing Sheltair for the work. The portfolio of Sheltair-managed and built facilities there already includes about 115,973 square feet across 86 individual hangar units. The new construction will span about 2.70 acres, adding 3 new hangars and 9 "oversized" t-hangars for a total of 17,622 square feet of parking space. That's not all, as 10 box hangars measuring 50 by 50 feet will add another 25,000 square feet to the Sheltair kingdom.  

Group Opts for GEnx Engines in First for South American Market

LATAM Group announced an order for 5 more Boeing 787 Dreamliners, to join up with their current fleet to one day number 46 of the type in all. LATAM also opted to equip their 787s with GEnx engines from GE Aerospace, becoming the “first airline group in South America" to be so equipped. The Group has come to love the Dreamliners already in service, having purchased 20 more since their pre-2020 peaks, despite the sometimes turbulent market experience felt by carriers around the world. LATAM has charged onwards and upwards, and will ultimately operate 46 Boeing 787s once these newest orders are filled.

Airbus Has a Good Week with a Firm Order for More Than 100 Aircraft

The purchase is a firm order for 157 additional A320neo series aircraft, split between 56 A320neos and 101 A321neos. The agreement is part of easyJet’s fleet renewal and upgauging plan, though it remains subject to shareholder approval. Given the tenor around their executive suites, it seems extremely likely easyJet will go through with the deal, since it would rejuvenate the fleet with more efficient, more eco-friendly, and modern aircraft.

On November 25, about 1835 central standard time, a Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee, N7763W, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Mertzon, Texas. The pilot and two passengers were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Titel 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to a family member, the occupants were travelling from Los Cruces International Airport (LRU), Los Cruces, New Mexico, to the Bulverde Airpark (1TT8), Bulverde, Texas. Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recorded the airplane as it departed LRU at 1100 central standard time.
