ZeroAvia Touts Hydrogen-Electric Passenger Flight

Flight Completed Taxi, Takeoff, A Full Pattern Circuit, And Landing

ZeroAvia has completed the world first hydrogen fuel cell powered flight of a commercial-grade aircraft. The flight took place at the company's R&D facility in Cranfield, England, with the Piper M-class six-seat plane completing taxi, takeoff, a full pattern circuit, and landing. ZeroAvia's achievement is the first step to realising the transformational possibilities of moving from fossil fuels to zero-emission hydrogen as the primary energy source for commercial aviation. Eventually, and without any new fundamental science required, hydrogen-powered aircraft will match the flight distances and payload of the current fossil fuel aircraft.

Power, Pulchritude and Performance: Flight Testing Pipistrel's Panthera, Part 1

By Jim Campbell, ANN CEO/Editor-n-Chief/Test Pilot (Arrogant, Over-Opinionated Know-It-All/Test Dummy)

ANN E-I-C Note: It’s been a while since I had the chance to sit down and do a flight test report the way that I want to… at least as far as the flight dynamics and writing are concerned. ANN is simply too time-consuming to allow for much in the way of 'extra' projects right now, as we recover from all the added issues that the pandemic has dumped on us. I’ve looked forward to this one a great deal... and it appears that the wait was worth it… In the next 5 (possibly six) parts of this 8000 word magnum opus, we will lay out ALL the nitty-gritty of our flight test and analysis of the Pipistrel Panth

Crew of 'Old Glory' Discusses Forced Landing

"We Are Grateful There Were No Casualties."

Earlier this week, we reported the forced landing of a highly valued B-25 Mitchell bomber, 'Old Glory' that was on its way home from having been shipped back from WWII celebrations in Hawaii... many questions remain and the NTSB has barely had time to look the situation over. Now, however, we've heard from those on board the bird, themselves, via messgaing on the aircraft's home website...

Even More Certification Legislation Is Proposed...

Bill Attempts to Reinforce Human Factors in the A/C Certification Process

Still believing in promoting aviation safety through legislation by a body with little aviation expertise, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02), and Rep. Garret Graves (LA-06) have introduced the Human Factors Improvements to Aircraft Certification Act, bipartisan legislation to prioritize the consideration of human factors in the aircraft certification process and support pilots and flight crews as aviation technology advances. “Airplanes are changing rapidly, and the federal government is not keeping pace with those changes. Integrating human factors throughout the aircraft design and certification process will help address systemic issues with increasingly automated aviati

IAC: Two Aerobatic Contests Cancel, Convert To Practice Days

Both Contests Have Opted To Hold Practice Days

Both the Ohio Aerobatic Open scheduled for October 15-17 and Spring 81 scheduled for November 7-8 have canceled their contests. Although both were eager to hold their annual contests, they both have opted to have practice days. Ohio, IAC chapter 34, had enough pilots, judges and volunteers to hold a contest and could comply with their state's COVID-19 guidelines, but a late start on an airport summer resurfacing project has left the ramp space at 50% capacity...

ALPA Canada Tries to Rally Support For Aviation Industry

Awaits Further Details But Sees Some Reason For Cautious Optimism

It's all about the mooney... As Canada’s aviation sector continues to struggle from the effects of COVID-19, the most recent throne speech shed some light on potentially meaningful government assistance to directly support the aviation industry and protect the jobs of its workers. For more than six months, the Air Line Pilots Association Canada (ALPA Canada) has respectfully lobbied the government for targeted support as the Association and its members fight to stop the failure of Canada’s airline industry.

NTSB Prelim: Piper PA46 Aircraft

Approach Was "Bumpy" Due To Winds And Terrain

The pilot was performing a straight-in approach to runway 35R, and the approach was "bumpy" due to winds and terrain. She reported that about touchdown, a "severe wind event caused what felt like a potential upset." The pilot felt the left wing lift up and an uncommanded downturn to the right. She applied full power to bank left and climb, but the airplane did not climb.

Aero-News: Quote of the Day (09.26.20)

“The United States has the strongest aviation safety record in the world in part because of decades of bipartisan cooperation and coming together to make the system safer and better, and this legislation is a next step in that tradition. By evaluating and adjusting our incorrect assumptions about how pilots interface with the flight controls in emergency situations and ensuring that more realistic assumptions about human factors are integrated into system design, we will raise the bar even higher on the safety of our aviation industry.” Source: Rep. Garret Graves (LA-06), who is a partner in legislation to introduce the Human Factors Improvements to Aircraft Certification Act, bipartisan legislation to prioritize the consi
