Deep Impact Kicks Off Fourth Of July With Deep Space
After 172 days and 431 million kilometers (268 million miles) of
deep space stalking, Deep Impact successfully reached out and
touched comet Tempel 1. The collision between the coffee
table-sized impactor and city-sized comet occurred at 0152 EDT.
In a lawsuit filed by Charles F. Parsons and Aerospace
Marketing, Inc., a Florida jury found that Ballistic Recovery
Systems, Inc., committed a breach of a contract related to the
GARD-150 product and failed to perform its obligations under a
contract related to the GARD-172 and awarded the plaintiffs
approximately $3.4 million in damages.
Steve Fossett and Mark Rebholz successfully flew the Vickers
Vimy for just over 18 hours across the Atlantic to land on an Irish
golf course. The flight departed from Newfoundland at 1919 hrs
Saturday and arrived in Ireland at 1704 hrs Sunday.
The washing-machine-sized, copper-fortified impactor is expected
to make a good impression on the comet Tempel 1 at 0152 EDT July
4th. It was successfully released from the flyby spacecraft at 0207
EDT on Sunday.
A pilot of a Cessna violated restricted airspace around Camp
David Saturday, and the pilot was questioned and released. The
aircraft was intercepted about eight miles from the presidential
retreat by two F-16 fighters around 2245 Saturday.
Spectrum Aircraft Corporation of Florida just introduced the
A-36 "Vulcan", a brand new two-seat, twin-engine sport plane.
Commissioned by Spectrum, the new Vulcan was designed and

flight from Jakarta to Incheon, a university professor reportedly
