If media reports are true, the clouds will open and a messianic
light will shine down upon Reagan National Airport Wednesday. For
the first time since the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the airport
will be open once again to general aviation traffic.

James Dean Fans Say They'll Continue Pushing For Partial
Airport Closure
Fans of the late James Dean continue to dream, but refuse to
die, as they search for alternatives after the FAA refused to shut
down Marion Municipal Airport for their annual festival.
The National Business Aviation Association NBAA Monday hailed
passage in the US House of Representatives of two bills that would
reopen Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to general
aviation.
One surmises that the GA world should be thankful that only two
fairly visible pundits have spoken up publicly about a perceived
need to kill pilots who blunder into the Washington ADIZ.
Envirocare Steps Up With $3 Million To Raise Cessna 177B
It was some eight years ago a Scenic Airlines Cessna 177B made a
tricky water landing on Utah's Lake Powell. The operator and the
three German tourists were able to get out safely and were picked
up by a passing boat, but the aircraft sank to the bottom, as deep
as 180 feet below.

Cassini Radio Signals Decipher Saturn Ring Structure
The Cassini spacecraft has obtained the most detailed look ever
at Saturn’s rings, including the B ring, which has eluded
previous robotic explorers. Its structure seems remarkably
different from its two neighbors, rings A and C.
The FAA completed the evaluation process and has subsequently
authorized the SFT-3000, to be used as an “Advance Aviation
Training Device,” for use under Title 14 Code of Federal
Regulations (14 CFR) Parts 61 and 141. The evaluating FAA Inspector
said that in his opinion, “the device was more functional and
appeared to be more realistic and capable of conducting the
functions and maneuvers…than most of the Level 1 and 3
FTD’s (Flight Training Devices) currently approved by the
FAA.”
"The measures passed by leaders in the House this week once
again demonstrate an understanding that effective security measures
and normal economic activity can coincide at one of the nation's
most important airports. As the Senate prepares to consider these
pieces of legislation, NBAA will be working with Senate leaders to
encourage their continuing support for reopening Reagan National
Airport to general aviation."
