Second Solo Flight Ends In Parking Lot

Florida Student Pilot Lost Control "For Unknown Reasons"

A 60-year-old student pilot reportedly lost control of the Cessna 172 shortly after takeoff from Tampa North Aero Park in Florida for his second solo flight and wound up hitting some cars in a nearby parking lot.

FAA records indicate the pilot of the Skyhawk lost control "for unknown reasons" during the takeoff-climb phase of the flight. The pilot was not injured in the accident, but the aircraft was substantially damaged.

The 172 is registered to Helicopter Structural and Maintenance Inc of Lutz, FL DBA Tampa North Aero Services. Television station WFTS in Tampa reports that witnesses said the airplane seemed to skid off the runway on takeoff, and impacted two cars at a nearby business. There was reportedly no fire or fuel leakage from the accident.
