Airbus Gets A New Honcho

Report Says Gustav Humbert Will Likely Lead Boeing Rival

All bets are on Gustav Humbert to become the next head of Airbus -- a move that appears to seal a rift between France and Germany over who will take over for Noel Forgeard.

EADS co-chairman Manfred Bischoff met Thursday with his partner, Arnaud Lagardere and French Finance Minister Thierry Breton, hoping to firm up Humbert's nomination.

Forgeard's promotion to become co-chief executive officer of Airbus's parent company, EADS, touched off what threatened to become a major conflict between the aerospace firm's French and German owners.

That conflict would have rocked the very foundation of EADS, a company built on the concept of compromise. It's governed by two chairmen, two CEOs, and two primary shareholders. In each case, the two are French and German.

Humbert, currently Airbus's chief operating officer, is a German. Forgeard is French.
