Russian state manufacturer Rostec has unveiled its new unmanned fighter, currently called the Checkmate, at the Dubai Airshow. The Sukhoi Checkmate has been billed as a 5th generation light tactical aircraft. The fighter appears to offer a 1,700 mile range, a top speed just under 1,400 mph, and 5 internal hardpoints. Accuses Company Of Alleged Hazardous Materials Violations

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a $120,000 civil penalty against Braille Battery, Inc., of Sarasota, Fla., for alleged hazardous materials violations. It is NOT the first time that Braille has come under the thumb of the FAA for battery related infractions. In October and November 2019, Braille Battery offered two shipments of lithium-ion batteries to FedEx for transportation by air. The FAA alleges the batteries did not meet safety criteria for transportation, and therefore were prohibited from being shipped. The FAA further alleges it informed Braille about this prohibition in September 2019.

The student pilot, who was the sole occupant, was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The pilot was flying his second solo cross-country flight and had planned for a full stop landing at Ukiah Municipal Airport.
