Garmin Product Update from AirVenture

Garmin International Monday announced the G500, a new avionics suite designed specifically for Part 23 Class I and Class II aircraft, which are defined as single and twin-engine piston and turbine engine aircraft under 6,000 pounds.

The G500 is similar in design to Garmin's G600 and incorporates two individual displays - a primary flight display (PFD) and multi-function display (MFD) - in a customized package designed for easy retrofit installation.

The G500 communicates and integrates with Garmin's other panel mount products, and provides essential information such as attitude, air data, weather, terrain, and traffic.

Piper Aircraft Introduces the G600 on Entry-Level & Twin-Engine Aircraft

Today at EAA's AirVenture, Piper announced that it will add the Garmin G600 glass avionics suite to its primary trainers, its twin-engine aircraft and the newly revamped Piper Archer that will come to market next year. 

The G600 will be offered as optional equipment on the Seneca V, as well as both the Piper Warrior and the Piper Seminole.

In addition, the G600 and STEC-55X autopilot will be standard on the reintroduced Piper Archer, set to be unveiled in 2010.  The Archer, which will sell for approximately $300,000, will also include Nexrad weather, air conditioning, and leather seats as standard equipment.

EAA President Tom Poberenzy Says Oshkosh Is Strong, Advance Ticket Sales Up 33 Percent

By all indications, AirVenture 2009 will exceed expectations for attendence by visitors and aircraft. EAA President Tom Poberenzy said on opening day that advance ticket sales were up 33 percent, the campsight has spilled over into the overflow area, the North 40 has been temporarily closed, and all expectations on attendence look like they will be exceeded by a significant margin.
EAA spent 3.8 million on the site this year. Poberenzy said the exhibit space has been increased by 60 percent, and that vendors had responded in many cases by increasing their exhibit space, a result of those improvements, he said.

Engine Has Flown 20 Hours on Unleaded Fuel

Teledyne Continental Motors, Inc. (TCM) announced Sunday that it flew its Factory Turbocharged SR22 to Oshkosh fueled on UL94 Unleaded Aviation Fuel.  With ASTM actively working the certification of UL94, TCM has shifted from testing the fuel to preparing its engines for its eventual introduction.

The unleaded avgas fueled flight to 2009 AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, performed by TCM president Rhett Ross and company pilot and engineer Keith Chatten.  The flight was the third extended flight for this standard production engine, which has now accumulated 20 hours on unleaded fuels.  The flight followed an initial test flight of 802 miles round trip from Mobile, Alabama to Oshkosh, Wisconsin cond
