Plane Found Safe In Owner's Garage

When the signal came in, search crews in Big Fork, MT, hit the bricks, in an effort that involved both ground and air units, looking for the source. Thirty-seven hours later, the search ended when the source of the Emergency Locator Transmitter signal was found -- in the owner's garage.

Cospas-Sarsat Wants To Switch Over To 406 MHz

The FAA Wednesday issued a NOTAM announcing plans to end satellite processing of emergency locator transmitter (ELT) distress signals broadcast over 121.5 MHz and 243 MHz on February 1, 2009. This comes at the request of the Cospas-Sarsat program, an international search and rescue program that uses satellite-aided tracking, and is part of a transition to 406-MHz ELTs whose signals provide more information with greater accuracy than the current ELTs.

EAA Chapter To Restore L-19 Recovered From Lake In Minnesota

Family Of Pilot Lost In 1958 Will Be Present

Members of EAA Chapter 1172 in Willmar, MN,have volunteered to restore a Cessna L-19 Birddog that plunged into nearby Green Lake nearly 47 years ago. The Army airplane, which will be removed from the lake on Saturday, August 13, crashed on October 15, 1958, killing pilot Capt. Richard P. Carey of Willmar. Carey's body was found two weeks later, but the aircraft was never recovered.

Northrop Grumman says it has been awarded a contract by the US Marine Corps to begin outfitting their F/A-18 Hornet aircraft with LITENING AT pods and pylons. LITENING AT is a self-contained, multisensor laser target-designating and navigation system and the pods are equipped with the new data link "plug-and-play" technology that enables them to accept a variety of data links without any modification to the pod or aircraft.
