One Of Few Jets Allowed Into London City Airport
Embraer delivered its 900th jet of the ERJ 145 family to
European customer Luxair today. The handover ceremony of the
carrier's second ERJ 135 jet took place at the headquarters of
Embraer in Sao Jose dos Campos, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The customer intends to use its two new ERJ 135s to serve London
City Airport (LCY) from Luxembourg and on its network for longer
routes. The ERJ 135 received LCY certification in October 2003 and
today is one of the few jets allowed to operate in that particular
airport.
"Today we welcome Luxair executives at our headquarters and
share with them the pleasure of celebrating another milestone
Embraer product delivery. We are particularly pleased that our
aircraft are playing such a pivotal role in developing Luxembourg
Airport as a hub for regional air traffic in Europe," said Mauricio
Botelho, Embraer President and CEO.
"We feel particularly honored to accept the delivery of the
900th Embraer jet. This milestone ERJ 135 will join our growing
fleet of ERJs, and will second our first ERJ 135 already in
operation onto our London City route," said Jean-Pierre Walesch,
Luxair CEO.
Luxair's relationship with Embraer goes back to 1991, when the
company took delivery of the first of three turboprop EMB 120
Brasilia airplanes. Six years later, the airline ordered its first
aircraft of the ERJ 145 family, marking the beginning of the
carrier's all-jet era. Luxair took delivery of its first two
"Eurojets" -- which is how the customer calls its ERJ 145s and ERJ
135s -- in 1998. Currently, Luxair's fleet of Embraer aircraft
comprises of ten jets, two ERJ 135s and eight ERJ 145s.
