World Surveillance Group Files PCT Patent Application On Airship Design

Patent Based On Company's Argus One Lighter-Than-Air UAV

A patent application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty ("PCT") for an airship design and a method of controlling the airship has been filed by lighter-than-air ("LTA") UAV developer World Surveillance Group. The patent, based on the company's Argus One UAV, was filed to protect its intellectual property in the unique airship design that is the foundation of the Company's UAV research and development program.

Argus 1 UAV

WSGI intends not only to improve and commercialize its mid-altitude Argus One airship, but to expand on its airship design to develop next generation UAVs with longer durations, higher altitudes and increased payload capacities, including the Stratellite, a long endurance airship intended to operate in the lower stratosphere.

The PCT patent application is for a LTA unmanned, autonomous airship with automated control for individual modules for improved flight stability and aerodynamic control. The design features the ability to control the rigidity between each module and the ability to pivot. The modules are operated by microcontrollers based on aerodynamic requirements. The airship's altitude, overall response and handling characteristics and flight control utilizes a system of ballonets contained within each individual module, thereby creating a dynamically adjustable airship.

The Company's PCT patent application is based on a proprietary airship design that has undergone years of research and development and testing. The Argus One UAV has been flight tested and is currently stationed in Nevada for further testing, demonstrations and evaluation by our government sponsors. The Argus One airship is designed to hover or move above the earth's surface for extended periods of time handling winds in a more efficient manner than traditional "blimp-like" airships, while also delivering a cost-effective solution for many applications based on minimal required ground and human infrastructure. The proprietary design was developed to focus on government and commercial applications including military, intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance ("ISR"), border monitoring and drug enforcement, natural disaster infrastructure, and eventually as an instant infrastructure solution for global low cost voice and data communications.

"The filing of our initial PCT patent application is a major step for our Company and in line with our goal to diligently protect our intellectual property and strengthen our IP portfolio," said WSGI President and CEO Glenn D. Estrella. "We are excited by the unique technical capabilities of our mid-altitude airship design, which we believe gives our Argus One airship the potential to successfully operate in a large array of mission critical applications. We also fully intend to build on our unique airship design to develop increasingly more complex UAVs leading to our ultimate goal of a high-altitude, stratospheric, long endurance aircraft."
