Pratt & Whitney, JetBlue Airways Finalize A320neo Engine Agreement

PurePower PW1100G-JM Engines To Power The Airlines' New Airplanes

A definitive agreement for PurePower PW1100G-JM engines to power JetBlue's order of 40 firm A320neo family aircraft has been inked between Pratt & Whitney and the airline. The deal, announced as an MOU in late 2011, includes 86 PurePower engines with a long-term PureSolution maintenance service agreement. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2018.

"The PurePower engine is optimally designed for our future fleet of A320neo aircraft," said Dave Ramage, vice president technical operations for JetBlue Airways. "The benefits of improved fuel efficiency, lower operating cost and a minimal noise footprint make the PurePower engine a prudent investment in our future."

"We are very pleased that JetBlue selected us becoming the first U.S. airline to select the game-changing PurePower engine for its A320neo aircraft family," said Todd Kallman, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines president. "We look forward to helping JetBlue reduce costs and provide a reliable, cost-efficient product with improved fuel efficiency - the greenest engine available."

The PurePower engine uses an advanced gear system allowing the engine's fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. The combination of the gear system and an all-new advanced core delivers double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency and environmental emissions as well as a 50 percent reduction in noise.
