Board Is Coordinating Recovery of Cargo Jet From Pacific Ocean

The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team of investigators to the ditching site of a Boeing 737 cargo jet off the Hawaiian island of Oahu to coordinate the recovery of the wreckage from the ocean floor. Rhoades Aviation Inc, dba TransAir Flight 810, a Boeing 737-200 bound for Kahului, Hawaii, on July 2, reported anomalies in both engines and subsequently ditched into Mamala Bay shortly after takeoff from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Honolulu, Hawaii. The two pilots escaped from the wreckage and were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Honolulu Airport Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Unit.

The Block III Super Hornet Brings Several New Capabilities To The Fleet

The first of 78 new Super Hornets built by Boeing was ferried to Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23 at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, for continued developmental testing. The next few Block III jets to leave the production line will head to VX-9, at Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS) China Lake, California, to start training for operational testing, during which the aircraft will undergo evaluation in scenarios that mimic operational missions. Since accepting delivery of Block III test jets last summer, VX-23 and VX-31, at NAWS China Lake, have put the latest configuration of the multi-mission strike fighter through its paces.

Greenland Ops Are Critical For Providing Aircrews With Experience In Polar Regions

The New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing has wrapped up its annual support to the National Science Foundation in Greenland as Airmen and LC-130 “Skibirds” returned to Stratton Air National Guard Base Sept. 22. The unit supplied 1.3 million pounds of cargo, 32,000 gallons of fuel and delivered 910 passengers. The Airmen flew a total of 678 hours. The wing conducted an extended season, starting in March and running through September, providing support to National Science Foundation research sites on the ice cap in Greenland.

Vertical Aerospace released details on the Vertical and Marubeni Corporation’s agreement to explore sustainable, emissions free Advanced Aerial Mobility travel solutions in the Japanese market with focus on Vertical’s flagship electric aircraft. Marubeni has also agreed a conditional pre-order option of up to 200 of Vertical’s aircraft. Vertical and Marubeni will start the evaluation process  for eVTOL aircraft operations in Japan. The companies believe that Japan has great potential when it comes to the commercialization of the AAM market.

AD 2021-19-09 Prompted By The Development Of A Modification (MOD) Procedure By Airbus Helicopters

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2020-24-03, which applied to certain Airbus Helicopters Model AS350B, AS350BA, AS350B1, AS350B2, AS350D, AS355E, AS355F, AS355F1, and AS355F2 helicopters. AD 2020-24-03 required testing the UP/DOWN switches of a certain part-numbered DUNLOP cyclic stick grip, installing a placard, and revising the existing Rotorcraft Flight Manual (RFM) for your helicopter, or removing the DUNLOP cyclic stick grip. This AD retains some requirements of AD 2020-24-03 and also requires incorporating a new modification, and removing the placard and the RFM amendment installed previously as required by AD 2020-24-03. AD 2021-18-14 Requires Inspecting The Polyurethane (PU) Fuel Hoses

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all DG Flugzeugbau GmbH Models DG-808C and DG-1000T gliders. This AD was prompted by mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI identifies the unsafe condition as damaged fuel hoses due to environmental and fatigue deterioration. This AD requires inspecting the polyurethane (PU) fuel hoses, replacing the PU fuel hoses if there is damage, and establishing a life limit for the PU fuel hoses.
