DoT Announces Drone Pilot Program

New Program Named BEYOND

SecTrans Chao has announced that the three-year UAS Integration Pilot Program (IPP) successfully concluded on Oct. 25. Eight of the nine state, local and tribal governments that participated in the program have signed new agreements with the FAA to continue to tackle remaining UAS integration challenges. “The three years of information gathered under the drone Integration Pilot Program will be applied to a new initiative called BEYOND, which will further advance the safe integration of drones into our national air space,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

The Southeast Council of Air Shows (SECAS), a regional group of the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) and JLC AirShow Management are excited to announce the second annual SECAS Summit on March 18-21, 2021. In addition to the summit, a new and innovative air show training camp program will be included. This will be the first time a regional organization will combine an annual meeting with air show ground and flight training. Air show performers, demonstration teams, air bosses, announcers, FAA (FSDO) members, and event organizers are invited to attend. NASA Pilot Flies California Fire Missions

Howe Began Assisting National Guard Wildfire Monitoring During The 2018 Fire Season

NASA pilot Scott Howe is flying a remotely piloted MQ-9 with infrared cameras that can see through smoke and ash. The live images are overlaid with maps and satellite imagery of California wildfires to give commanders a more complete picture of what they face. Howe is not flying the Ikhana, a civilian variant of the MQ-9 that was based at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in California. This fire season he has often been flying a MQ-9 for the California Air National Guard as they assist with some of the most devastating wildfires in the state’s history.

NTSB Prelim: Czech Sport Cruiser

Airplane Was In Level Flight On A Heading Of 070° And At An Altitude Of 3,500 Ft When Radar Contact Was Lost

On October 7, 2020, about 1230 central daylight time, a Czech Aircraft Works Sport Cruiser, N251SC, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Waterloo, Alabama. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot’s spouse, the pilot departed McKinney National Airport (TKI), McKinney, Texas earlier on the day of the accident, flew to Ripley Airport (25M), Ripley, Mississippi to refuel the airplane, and then departed for his home airport in Oakridge, Tennessee.
