Whitson, Tani Repair Problem To Power Generation System

Let there be light... onboard the International Space Station, that is. Early Wednesday afternoon, Expedition 16 Commander Peggy Whitson and Flight Engineer Dan Tani finished a seven hour, 10 minute spacewalk outside the ISS, to make repairs on the starboard side of the truss structure.

Will Spend $500 Million Converting Former USAF Base To Reliever Airport

While the US Department of Transportation mulls alternatives for reducing the growing delays at the major New York airports, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has a bold plan of its own. The port says it will spend $500 million over the next decade to turn Stewart International Airport (SWF), a former Air Force Base west of Newburgh, NY into a state-of-the-art reliever airport handling millions of passengers each year.

Field Aviation Selected To Convert Q300s For Japan's Coast Guard

Will Bring Maritime Patrol/SAR Fleet To Five

Aero-News learned this week Field Aviation of Toronto was recently awarded a contract to convert two additional Bombardier/de Havilland Dash 8-300 turboprops as Maritime Patrol (MPA)/Search and Rescue (SAR) platforms for the Japan Coast Guard. This follows an initial contract for three Japanese Dash 8-300 MPAs signed in January 2007, and currently under completion.

The airborne radar beacon transmitter/receiver portion of the air traffic control radar beacon system. The transponder automatically receives radio signals from an interrogating station on the ground.

"Using a simulator for a customer's entire type rating means we no longer have to schedule training around aircraft availability or weather conditions. We also will bring two additional Level D simulators online very soon and all will be operated about 20 hours per day, seven days a week. This additional simulator capacity will enable us to move customers through our type rating program faster, and also allow the start of recurrent flight training for our customers who have been operating their Eclipse 500s for a year."
