Ingenious Airborne Video System Catches ANN's Eye
While at AOPA 2013, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell spoke with David Tenenbaum, CEO of Airborne Sensor, LLC. Airborne Sensor produces an externally mounted aircraft camera system called the Eagle 360. Being a self-admitted techno-geek, Jim just couldn’t pass this up.
The Eagle 360 camera system is a pod that mounts externally on the outside of the aircraft. A simple plate is installed on the airplane and the pod can be easily attached or detached. It uses the GoPro camera, and can house from 1 to 4 cameras for any type of video recording. The installation requires an STC and, according to Tenenbaum, almost any FAA part 23 certified aircraft is approved for the installation.
The video from the camera, or cameras, can also be combined with an overview from Google Earth to make an informative and entertaining presentation. This video explains the hardware, the innovative software, and includes some very cool aerial videography clips.
