The Bombardier CSeries CS300 airliner made its first flight today from Montreal's Mirabel airport. After a weather cancellation Thursday and nearly hour's delay this morning, the CS300 took off at 1100, ET, after dealing with an issue with the flight test monitoring system.
Once fixed, C-FFDK took off from runway 24 without any problems and engaged in a 'picture perfect' 5 hour test flight. ANN also just learned of the passing of Science Fiction TV/Movie Icon, Leonard Nimoy, whose 'Mr. Spock' character inspired many to dream of great things. The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation approved Christopher Hart as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board on February 26, sending the nomination to the full Senate. Hart originally served with the NTSB from 1990 to 1993. His most recent term with the NTSB started in August 2009 and since then he has been appointed the Vice Chairman 3 times and has been currently serving in that position. He became the acting Chairman in April 2014 when Deborah Hersman left the post. Oklahoma’s Senator, Jim Inhofe, has introduced S. 571, the Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 to address numerous important issues including expanding the 3rd class medical exemption for recreational pilots and broadening the
protections provided in the original Pilot’s Bill of Rights authored by Inhofe and signed into law in 2012.
The second Flight Test Vehicle in Bell's 505 Jet Ranger X program has been flown for the first time. The Bell 505’s Flight Test Vehicle One completed its first flight in November of last year, and the program has quickly progressed, performing additional flight tests and numerous practice autorotations.
