FreeFlight Gets FAA TSO On RANGR FDL-978-RX

Provides ADS-B In Traffic And Weather Capabilities

The FAA has granted Technical Service Order (TSO) approval to the company’s RANGR FDL- 978-RX ADS-B receiver with optional built-in WAAS GPS. The system provides an affordable and flexible way to add ADS-B In traffic and weather capabilities to aircraft with certified 1090ES or UAT ADS-B Out transmitters.

The RANGR FDL-978-RX receives ADS-B Flight Information Service Broadcast (FIS-B) data services including graphical weather. It also receives ADS-B Traffic Information Service-Broadcast (TIS-B) data when integrated with a certified ADS-B Out transmitter, and “sees” other traffic directly when within line-of-sight of other ADS-B Out-equipped aircraft. The system is permanently installed and includes an externally mounted ADS-B antenna for unimpeded reception of broadcast data.

The FIS-B and ADS-B traffic data is certified to TSO- C157a, and TSO-C195a respectively, which allows the data to be displayed on compatible screens.  The optional wifi module connects the FDL-978-RX to portable devices such as iPads and Androids for integration with popular third-party ADS-B apps and FreeFlight Systems free ADS-B In app.

The RANGR FDL-978-RX’s optional WAAS GPS sensor provides aircraft position, velocity and other information to an ADS-B Out transmitter. The WAAS GPS is certified to TSO-C145c and is approved as a high-integrity position source for ADS-B and for terrain awareness and other safety systems.
