Airborne 12.06.19: Cora eVTOL, Battle of Britain, B777 Repo

Also: Bob Hoover Legacy Foundation, IFR Checkride Webinar, Heli SAFO, DA42 MT-Prop, NORAD

Boeing and Kitty Hawk have rebooted their joint eVTOL project, rolling out a new brand for the Cora program.

Now known as "Wisk", the new website explains that the recently-established company is a joint venture between The Boeing Company and Kitty Hawk Corporation. The aircraft is still called "Cora". The aircraft features a vertical lift system that includes 12 independent rotors. Each direct drive motor combination has only one moving part: the fan. Flight tests have shown that an issue with one rotor is automatically handled with no discernible change in the flight path. A unique public event on August 18, 2020 will commemorate the 80th anniversary of The Battle of Britain, the first campaign of WWII to be fought entirely in the air. Biggin Hill played a significant role in the battle, which culminated on August 18 ... a day that has since become known to history as "The Hardest Day". On that day, the German Luftwaffe made an all-out effort to destroy the RAF Fighter Command. A Nigerian court has ordered the seizure of an Emirates Boeing 777 to settle a decade-long dispute over a plane ticket. The airline reportedly owes 8.1 million Nigerian Naira ... or about $22,400 ... to Nigerian citizen Miss Promise Mekwunye over a disputed ticket. Mekwunye purchased a ticket for travel in December, 2007 from Dallas to Lagos and back. She says the $2,067 ticket was confirmed more than three times. But when she showed up at the gate, she was denied boarding with no other explanation than the ticket was cancelled. Emirates offered no compensation or other arrangements for her travel. Mekwunye got help from her father on a different airline using a longer route for $3,200. But there was no refund from Emirates. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
