Blue Origin’s crew-rated suborbital launch vehicle dealt with a mission-ending anomaly during NS-23, an un-maned flight of Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket on the morning of 12 September 2022. No lives were lost in the incident, and both Blue Origin and New Shepard—within the context of spaceflight malfunctions—acquitted themselves honorably. Blue Origins Discloses NS-23 Findings

September 2022 Mishap Attributed to Failed Engine Nozzle

Comes now 24 March 2023, and Blue Origins has made public the findings of the NS-23 investigation. To wit: The direct cause of the NS-23 mishap was a thermo-structural failure of the engine nozzle. The resulting thrust misalignment properly triggered the Crew Capsule escape system, which functioned as designed throughout the flight.  The Crew Capsule and all payloads onboard landed safely and will be flown again.  All systems designed to protect public safety functioned as planned. Success Compels Bombardier to Update Objectives

Winning the Long Game

Bombardier, based on strong business execution and fundamentals, announced it is updating its 2025 objectives. The company now aspires to see annual revenues of $9-billion by 2025, with an adjusted Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) of more than $1.625-billion and a healthy adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 18-percent. Bombardier, in the coming years, also expects to generate significant free cash flow, to the tune of more than $900-million annually by 2025. NTSB Prelim: Enstrom F-28C

During Takeoff, About 30 Feet Above The Ground, The Engine Lost Partial Power

On March 5, 2023, about 1400 Alaska standard time, an Enstrom F-28C Helicopter, N5688R sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident in Anchorage, Alaska. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The helicopter was operated by the pilot as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.The pilot completed the preflight and engine run-up with no anomalies noted. The helicopter then departed from the Lake Hood Seaplane Base (LHD), Anchorage.
