The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee canceled a planned vote pertaining to Phil Washington, Joe Biden’s controversial nominee to head the Federal Aviation Administration. Senate Commerce Committee chair Maria Cantwell (Democrat, Washington State) set forth that she was delaying the vote "pending information that members have been seeking." Cantwell did not specify a future date on which the nomination’s consideration might continue.

Wingcopter Embarks on Hydrogen Powered Partnership

Faster Turnaround, Longer Legs on the Table with ZAL Partnership

Wingcopter has embarked on a partnership with the Hamburg-based ZAL Center of Applied Aeronautical Research GmbH to provide hydrogen power to their electric UAVs. The German manufacturers currently plan to include a hydrogen-based propulsion system to the Wingcopter 198, allowing the aircraft to extend its range and refueling capacity while remaining fully emission-free. The addition of hydrogen propulsion should, if successful, provide the same performance of the current Wingcopter with greater ease in deployment and turnaround between delivery missions.

Analysis: The instrument-rated pilot of the business jet airplane, pilot-rated passenger, and five passengers departed on a cross-country flight and entered the clouds while performing a climbing right turn. An RNAV approach whose design allows direct flight to any one of three initial approach fixes (IAF) and eliminates the need for procedure turns. The standard design is to align the procedure on the extended centerline with the missed approach point (MAP) at the runway threshold, the final approach fix (FAF), and the initial approach/intermediate fix (IAF/IF). The other two IAFs will be established perpendicular to the IF.
