Ask any space explorer, and they’ll have a favorite photo or two from their mission. For Kevin Hand, a scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California and co-lead of the Perseverance rover’s first science campaign, his latest favorite is a 3D image of low-lying wrinkles in the surface of Jezero Crater. The science team calls this area “Raised Ridges.” NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter captured the two shots for this stereo image on July 24 during its 10th flight.

uAvionix Corporation announced it has received a Technical Standard Order (TSO) from the FAA for its “truFYX” Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver for UAS. The Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) / Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) capable GPS is reportedly the first to specifically target UAS platform navigation and surveillance solutions.

HAI Makes Up To 15 Scholarships Available Each Year

Helicopter Association International (HAI) has awarded nine HAI scholarships for 2021. Available to aviation students around the world, these scholarships support HAI’s mission to educate the next generation of helicopter professionals. HAI makes up to 15 scholarships available each year, funded through donations and other fundraising events. This year’s awards comprise 1 scholarship for students in helicopter maintenance technician programs, 1 for pilots working toward earning their commercial helicopter rating, 1 for safety professionals, and 6 for established maintenance professionals seeking training for specific helicopters or components.

On July 15, 2021, at 0954 Pacific daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Vans RV-6, N468AC, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Riverside, California. The two pilots onboard were seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that while on short final approach for runway 27, the engine experienced a total loss of power.
