One of the icons of the homebuilding community has Gone West. The Bede company said in a notice posted on its website that Jim Bede passed away July 9, 2015 as a result of an unrecoverable aneurysm suffered at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

First Female F-15E Weapons System Officer To Complete Graduate-Level Courses

Capt. Kari Armstrong, an F-15E Strike Eagle weapon systems officer with the 389th Fighter Squadron, received more than a diploma from the U.S. Air Force Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, June 27. Armstrong also became the first female F-15E weapons system officer and the second female student in a fighter platform -- after Col. Jeannie Leavitt in June 1998 -- to complete the graduate-level school.

Just as we were putting this episode of Airborne to bed late Thursday, we learned two pieces of news... good and bad. Unfortunately, we have confirmed that sport aviation pioneer and designer Jim Bede passed away July 9th, due to a sudden illness.

On a more positive note, we can report that Airbus will not get the drop on Pipistrel by being the first to electro-fly the English Channel... because a twin-engine electric CRI-CRI went ahead and did it -- and before the authorities could stop him, too. It was a beautiful move and we congratulate Hugues Duwal for the amazing feat. We’ll have more in
