DOT Fines Sky King For Charter Violations

Half-Million-Dollar Penalty Tied To Direct Air’s Ceasing Service

The U.S. DOT has assessed the air carrier Sky King a $500,000 penalty for violating rules that protect passengers when their public charter flights are suddenly canceled and ordered the carrier to cease and desist from further violations. Sky King was one of several carriers operating flights for Direct Air, a charter operator also known as Myrtle Beach Direct Air & Tours, which ceased operating in March 2012.

Airline Has 54 Boeing 737s On Order

A five-year exclusive pilot training agreement has been signed between Boeing and Singapore-based SilkAir. The training agreement will support SilkAir's fleet transition to Boeing airplanes. In November 2012, SilkAir finalized an order for 23 Next-Generation 737-800s and 31 737 MAX 8s, the largest order in the airline's history.

Increasing Capability Is 'Becoming Routine' For The F-35 Lightning II Team

The 58th Aircraft Maintenance Unit produced a four-turn-four for the 58th Fighter Squadron flying January 31 at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. "The pilots flew four F-35As in the morning and the maintainers performed routine maintenance for airworthiness after landing," said Col. Andrew Toth, the commander of the 33d Fighter Wing and one of the aviators in the formation.
