Cockpit Photos Lead To Reprimands For JAL Pilots, Flight Attendant

What Goes On Over Siberia... Doesn't Stay There

An impromptu Kodak moment during a long flight over Siberia has earned reprimands for three members of a Japan Air Lines crew.

According to The Associated Press, last December a 34-year-old JAL pilot allegedly encouraged a 28-year-old female flight attendant to sit in the captain's position with her hands on the controls for a photo. The two, along with a co-pilot who failed to intervene, all earned reprimands.

The company stressed that safety was never an issue, as the plane was on autopilot at cruising altitude, six hours out of London bound for Osaka, flying over Siberia. There was no risk to the 176 passengers and 14 crew onboard.

The airline called the incident "imprudent behavior."

"We deeply regret what has happened," said JAL, adding the airline will take steps to make sure similar incidents never happen again.
