Aviation Staffing Website Notes A 2.17 Percent Increase In The Region
Southern California has seen a slight uptick in the number of aviation-related jobs during the month of October. The aviation job clearinghouse website AviationCrossing.com has noted a 2.17 percent increase in aviation job postings at least in Orange County, CA, since October. The numbers coincide with a slight increase in employment in the county overall, according to the state of California.
The site, which focuses on aviation jobs and related industry positions, reported 5,693 positions in October and 5,819 positions in November. This increase may seem slight but for such a niche industry, it’s highly positive, especially when the massive layoffs conducted at numerous airlines in recent months are taken into consideration.
“The fact that we’re seeing an upward tick in aviation is astounding,” says AviationCrossing.com CEO, A. Harrison Barnes. “With so much depressing financial news populating the country right now, aviation was due for a turnaround and these numbers indicate we may be moving in that direction with more employment opportunity options available.”
California is currently the state with the most jobs on the site, which directly relates to the jobs numbers released for the state. These are positive signs for the aviation industry and employment in Orange County as a whole. However, all may not be roses for Orange County as those 13,500 new jobs were outpaced by the number of new workers added to the economy. That’s why unemployment went up slightly. At this time of year with holiday hiring already having commenced, unemployment should have gone down, at least some.
Obviously, the economy hasn’t recovered yet but there are positive signs everywhere that it is growing or at least holding steady. “It takes time for an economy to recover from a recession like the one we just had,” says Barnes, “an increase in jobs on our site is a good indicator of what’s to come.”
